Scope and Content Note:
These tapes give researchers a glimpse of issues of the day – in many cases, literally of the day, as news programs were regularly recorded. The project was dynamic and ongoing – some tapes were saved, while others were recorded over with new material. Some tapes were fully labeled, others were not.
To organize the tapes, CPL archivists have grouped them into 10 series. Most tapes are organized chronologically; tapes without a date are listed at the end of the series. Generally, the “date” appears to be the broadcast date.
Most tapes are VHS format, but some are BETA or other formats. The non-VHS tapes can be converted for research use in the Reading Room. To use the tapes for other purposes, patrons need to contact the copyright holder because copyright is not held by the Library in most cases.Related Material: None
