Biographical/Historical Note:
Catholic Interracial Council of Chicago was established in 1948. CIC promoted racial justice within the Archdiocese of Chicago (Ill.), the Roman Catholic Church, and in society in general. CIC focused on specific instances of racial discrimination in Chicago churches, schools, housing, hospitals, and other agencies and in employment.

Scope and Content Note:
Collection primarily represents activities and members of the Council. Subjects include banquets, church services, pickets for civil rights, awards, the 1st National Catholic Conference for Interracial Justice (1958), high school study days, portraits of members, fundraisers.
