Biographical/Historical Note:
The Chicago Child Care Society (CCCS) is the oldest child welfare organization in Illinois, founded in 1849 as the Chicago Orphan Asylum. In 1870, CCCS adopted a policy of accepting children without regard to race, religion, or nationality. Since 1963, it has been based at 5467 South University Avenue in Hyde Park.

The Chicago Child Care Society Records document the activities of the agency from its founding to the late 1970s. It includes papers of its Directors, intake and indentured records, correspondence, and financial records. Please not that this is an unprocessed, donor restricted collection.
