Scope and Content Note:
This collection offers a variety of materials pertaining to African American experience, mostly from 20th century black freedom movement groups, including the Civil Rights Movement, Black Panthers, SNCC, black cultural figures, and other Chicago-based activists. Materials include periodicals, audio reels, letters, transcripts, brochures, and clippings. The collection also includes written comments by James Bevel, an interview with Bevel, an issue of the SCLC Newsletter and a newspaper clipping, all pertaining to the SCLC's campaign for desegregated housing in Chicago in 1966.
