The Illinois Commission on the 50th Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education was formed to plan and organize a commemorative celebration of that event. Its co-chairs were Illinois Senate President Emil Jones, Jr. and Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives Michael J. Madigan. The executive director was Ollie McLemore. The commemorative celebration was held May 17, 2004 at Chicago State University and the program includes a reenactment of the legal arguments presented to the Supreme Court in 1954 and the decision proclaimed, as well as a panel discussion entitled, “50 Years Later…Where Are We Now?” The roundtable included Barbara Sizemore, Arnette Hubbard, Mattie Hunter, Antonio Mora, and other legal and academic experts.

The collection includes extensive documentation of the planning of the commemorative celebration of the Brown v. Board of Education decision, including meeting agendas, financial and phone records, press coverage of the event, research notes, the papers of executive director Ollie McLemore related to the event, and correspondence.
