Scope and Content Note:
The Institute of Design records are academic, historical, and creative materials from the Institute of Design ca. 1948-2001. This collection includes output from individual students and class projects in photography, product design, industrial design, visual design, art education, printmaking, and film making; essays and articles by and about faculty members; articles, papers, and syllabi that faculty used for their classes; newspaper clippings; materials related to the history of ID, including retrospectives from the 50th anniversary celebration; awards and accolades; and special exhibits and projects in which ID participated or hosted. The Michael Abramson photographs (in Box 49) document night life and night clubs on the south side of Chicago in the late 1970s. The photographs mostly depict people hanging out in various bars and lounges. There are also some photographs of the buildings that housed these various clubs with the names of some of the clubs clearly shown in the photograph. Some of the visible clubs names include Burning Spear, Pepper's Hideout, The Patio Restaurant, Perv's House, Showcase Lounge and Club Zodiac. NOTE: The IIT Archives charges a fee for access to Institute of Design Records.
